To truly experience the richly internationalized history in Nagasaki is to taste it on food tours of Nagasaki with City Unscripted. Portuguese ships set sail for Nagasaki in the 1500s, influencing several Japanese dishes, from crispy tempura to fluffy Castella cake. And when Nagasaki’s port became the only area of Japan open to the outside world between the 1630s and 1850s, it was Japan’s major area of foreign trade, a hub of Chinese and European visitors introducing their own cultural influences. You’ll experience a fusion of all these unique flavors on Nagasaki food tours.
Nagasaki doesn’t stick to traditional Japanese cuisine and has largely forged its own unique culinary path. Expect to fuel your food tours of Nagasaki with steaming bao buns, traditional sushi, and deep-fried twisted cookies. And a cup of coffee here is bound to blow you away, because believe it or not, the coffee culture here dates back centuries!

Shin was a great tour guide. What started out as a food tour ended up as a city tour. Shin took us to Peace Park which wasn’t part of the tour. Also took us to a children’s book store so I could get a book for my granddaughter. Shin was very accommodating and took us all the places we wanted to see.

Yuri was our guide and she did fantastic. We had been to Nagasaki once before and visited the war memorial so this time we wanted to get to know the city better. She met us at the cruise port on time and was easy to find. She gave us a quick summary of what the day would entail and then led us on a wonderful tour of 3 different restaurants and a bit of her family and Japanese history as well. This was well worth the money and we thoroughly enjoyed our time in Nagasaki.
