Hi, I’m Reika

Naha

I love sharing the best of Naha with visitors, from the history of Shuri Castle to the lively streets of Kokusaidori. I enjoy riding my motorcycle along the coast, exploring beautiful beaches, and swimming with sea turtles among colorful coral reefs. Okinawa’s unique culture and local food are some of my favorite things to share, along with cozy cafes where you can relax. I’m looking forward to seeing Shuri Castle restored and showing you all the hidden gems that make Naha special. Let’s explore and make great memories together!

Hi, I’m MARIANA

Naha
5.0 (4)

I’m a friendly and easygoing local host who loves sharing the best of Naha with visitors. What I enjoy most here is the incredible variety of local food because there is always something new to try. I spend my days visiting temples, relaxing on beautiful beaches, and exploring parks and museums. I’m passionate about Okinawan culture, especially Eisa, sanshin music, traditional festivals, and the charming architecture of old Japanese houses. I know neighborhoods like Kokusai Dori, Naminoue, Asato, American Village, Itoman, Haebaru, Tomigusuku, Omoromachi, Makishi, Oroku, Senaga Island, and Shuri very well. If you’re looking for the best local restaurants, temples, matsuri, nightlife, jazz spots, or cultural performances, I’d be happy to show you around!

Hi, I’m Sara

Naha
5.0 (10)

My name is Sara Eiko. My mother is Japanese from Sasebo, Nagasaki and my father is American from Carlisle, Pennsylvania. I grew up between Japan and the U.S., giving me a naturally bicultural, global outlook. I’m a hospitality professional having held senior roles at world-renowned hotels such as Park Hyatt Tokyo, Grand Hyatt Tokyo and The Terrace Hotels. I’ve also worked as a simultaneous interpreter for prominent organizations including NHK, Japan Broadcasting Corporation, supporting major cultural and international events. Over the years, I’ve welcomed distinguished guests - from eminent artists and actors to political leaders and celebrity chefs. My passion is making people happy through "omotenashi" - the unique Japanese art of thoughtful, respectful hospitality. I specialize in Shuri Castle tours and have insider access through onsite research, membership in the Shurijo Castle Friendship Association and a close relationship with the castle's staff and the Okinawa Churashima Foundation which operates the castle. I also have deep ties with the descendants of the Sho royal family, offering rare insights into the Ryukyu Kingdom. I look forward to introducing you to the royal, majestic and fascinating world of Shuri!

Our guide Mariana is a super star!! Even prior to the tour, Mariana went above and beyond with communications and coordination's, which we so greatly appreciated. During the tour, Mariana showed us many places we never would have known to visit, provided so much insight into the local life on Okinawa, and perfectly introduced us to the stunning culture and powerful history of the island. We strongly recommend this tour specifically with Mariana to anyone visiting beautiful Okinawa!

Our family, including 2 teens, really enjoyed our tour of Naha with Sara Eiko Albright. We particularly loved the tour of Shuri Castle and an intimate visit to a pottery studio with the artist himself. Sara was very kind, knowledgeable, interesting and gave us tons of helpful tips for the rest of our stay in Naha, as well as our next stop in Tokyo.

We really enjoyed our 4 hour long walks with Mariana. It was very educational and fun. We walked at a comfortable pace, stopping whenever we needed to. Mariana provided so many interesting information about the history, culture and lifestyle of people in Okinawa that now it feels like we should start visiting any place with this type of tour. Definitely recommended to anyone who would like to get to know more,

Sarah was a wonderful guide and created an itinerary based on my interests in pottery. It included visiting a working kiln which was very interesting! A lovely tour!

We recommend this tailored 2 - 6 hours, for foodies, history or cultural buffs. Our guide Mariana (passionate Taika drummer) took us to interesting market, ceramic museum and delicious restaurant. Do try Goya Champuru (bitter melon stir-fry), Okinawa Soba (wheat noodles in pork broth), Rafute (braised pork belly), and Umibudo (sea grapes)..

FAQs

Your questions, answered

What’s the cancellation policy?

You can cancel your booking up to 24 hours before the start time for a full refund. Cancellations made less than 24 hours before are non-refundable.

Is this a traditional tour or something different?

This isn’t a traditional tour with a fixed script. It’s a fully personalized day shaped around your interests, whether it’s culture, history, neighborhoods, or hidden local spots. Your host is a knowledgeable local, more like a friend showing you their city. It’s flexible, one-on-one, and tailored entirely to you.

How does personalization work?

After booking, you’ll receive a short questionnaire where you can share your interests, travel style, and any must-see spots. Based on that, we’ll match you with a local host who’ll reach out to plan your personalized itinerary.

Are experiences the same as tours?

No. Our experiences are unscripted and designed around you. Instead of following a rigid itinerary, your host will plan a personalized journey that feels natural, immersive, and unique.

Will I be able to speak to my host beforehand?

Yes. After we match you with your host, we’ll introduce you so you can chat about the plan and make any tweaks before the day.

Can I mix different themes in one experience?

Yes! You can blend food, culture, history, neighborhoods, or even a bit of nightlife if time allows. Just share your interests in the questionnaire, and your host will build the day around them.

Will I know my itinerary in advance?

Yes, you will have the opportunity to chat with your host directly and agree on a plan for the day. However, there’s always room for spontaneity and local surprises!

What if I don’t know what I want to explore?

That’s completely fine! Select an experience theme or a flexible discovery experience, and after booking, answer a few questions so your host can design the perfect experience for you.
