Through a local’s eyes, you’ll see the parts of Nagasaki often overshadowed by its devastating past.
Here’s everything you need to know before your day unfolds.
Peek behind the heavy curtain of Nagasaki’s tragic past, and open your eyes to the beauty of the city as seen by its locals. From following your host past Dutch Slope (housing Western residences from the late 1800s) to seeking out Daion Ji temple’s statue of a Buddha and child – a reference to the Christian Madonna – your host will show you how cultures in Nagasaki conflate rather than clash. Visit landmarks with secrets of their own, like Daitoku-ji temple’s great camphor tree (the biggest in Nagasaki, with a temple tucked away between the roots and branches) or listen to legends of samurai warriors at the Teramachi cemetery, where centuries of stories lay sleeping amongst moss-covered stones and trees.

I had an incredible experience with our guide Shin in Japan! Shin’s off-the-beaten-track tour was a perfect blend of adventure and insight, keeping both adults and children thoroughly engaged. His deep knowledge of the area shone through in every detail, from hidden gems to fascinating local stories, making the journey unforgettable for all of us. Highly recommend Shin for an authentic and captivating exploration!

Show moreWe had such a good day We learnt so much from YURI
Show moreWe really are enjoyed our day with Senja. We had visited Nagasaki earlier and seen the atomic bomb museum and wanted to see the other side of the city. We visited many out of the way places that we would have never found without him. We particularly enjoyed learning about his experiences in Nagasaki as an immigrant teaching English to Japanese students. It enhanced our understanding of Japanese culture.
