Aki was a wonderful host! My husband and I learned a lot from the tour, like that there is a strong Western (American) influence in Sapporo. He took us to lovely parks where we could enjoy the autumn leaves. We had mentioned that we were most interested in the local cuisine, so he took us to the fish market to try the delicious scallops, to the oldest beer hall in Sapporo to taste Classic Sapporo beer, and finally to a wonderful hole-in-the-wall for the best miso ramen in town!

Great Tour!!

Our 4 hours Sapporo Private Tour: Highlights & Hidden Gems by a Local is a fantastic introduction to Sapporo. Our tour guide Akihiro is very knowledgeable and personable. We thoroughly enjoyed the excellent local seafood and ice cream introduced by Akihiro. We highly recommend this tour.

Akihiro is culturally knowledgeable and easy to talk to. His English is excellent, and he brings depth to every conversation; from history and architecture to culture and philosophy. I learned a lot and truly enjoyed exploring Sapporo with him.

Zarina was well informed and gave us a lot of interesting information and history regarding otaru. She was very adaptable given the bad weather and has a great sense of humor as well. She gave useful recommendations for Sapporo dining as well.

The guide, Zarina, explained many interesting things and also gave me useful tips.

This was a great first day tour to get the layout of the city and some out of the way highlights. Ryuki was an excellent guide, and he took us to one of our favorite stops in Hokkaido: Asahiyama Memorial Park. The autumn leaves were at their peak, and the walk was lovely. We were able to see a mountain-top view of the city there as well. Along with other stops at the Hokkaido Shrine and the 1972 Winter Olympic Ski Jump, we had an amazing lunch at a ramen place for the special miso ramen. This is a terrific first tour of Sapporo when you only have a few hours.

Ryuki improvised through terrible weather showing us sights from Sapporo that we would have likely not visited otherwise. He also provided some interesting insights about the town and recommendations for the next day.

Noguchi’s Moerenuma Park with his biological history was amazing. Ryuki was a good communicator, his English is perfect. He was extremely helpful in taking the role of translator for our personal logistics.

Shiunn is a wonderful guide. She tailored the tour to our interests and was fun and engaging ! She is both interested and interesting. Shiunn also gave us excellent recommendations for further exploring Sapporo and for restaurants in the area. We highly recommend her!

Had the best time exploring Sapporo with Ryo. We had exchanged emails ahead of time and he was able to customize the tour based on what we wanted to do in town. It was the perfect way to spend our first full day in Sapporo (and Hokkaido in general) as Ryo left us with plenty of tips and recommendations that we used for the rest of our time in the city. Felt like hanging out with an old friend by the end of our tour.

Ryo (Leo) was an awesome guide and really customized the tour to what I was interested in! We saw so much of Sapporo, and it was great to get a sense of the city from his perspective, having lived here for many years. Even outside of the tour, Ryo provided some wonderful recommendations for the rest of my time in Sapporo and other cities I would be visiting in Japan. I was a solo traveler, and it felt like having one of my friends show me around his city!

Leo was excellent

I had a great experience on the walking city tour in Sapporo with Leo. He was very personable and showed me some beautiful park areas, scenic viewpoints, and even arranged a lovely tea tasting. It was the perfect way to wrap up my trip to Japan, and I’d definitely come back for more! Communication with Leo was easy and excellent – he’s fluent in both English and Japanese, which made everything seamless. Just a heads-up for future travelers: If a taxi is used during the tour or there are any entry fees, these are not included in the tour price and should be paid separately. Thank you again, Leo!

Emilio was very helpful in explaining much of Sapporo and Hokkaido’s history. He also knows the best ice cream spot!

Emilio was wonderful. I went to a fish market I would not have gone to had he not taken me. I got to try Soup Curry from one of his favorite places. He also gave me some recommendations for craft beer in Sapporo. We walked all over and saw so many sights. It was so efficient having him as a guide. Emilio is really friendly to talk to as well. Highly recommend!

Emi gave us a great tour of the beautiful Hokkaido Shrine . In addition we enjoyed visiting the whimsical chocolate factory.

We had such a wonderful time with Emi! She took us to places that she knew we would enjoy & kept us engaged for 8 hours! We also had great food along the way and tried things we have never had. It was an enjoyable day, and we were pleasantly tired at the end of the tour. Emi also gave us maps and suggestions for the remaining time we had in Sapporo. We would highly recommend Emi and her tour to anyone that wants the insider’s tour.

Toru is an excellent guide who made me feel very welcome and comfortable in his city of Sapporo. He helped me orient myself within the city and gave me a range of ideas for how to spend the rest of my time there. Toru's food recommendations were also excellent. He was great company and definitely made the most of the short time we had together to 'kick start' my time in Sapporo.

I cannot recommend our tour with Toru in Sapporo highly enough! We asked for a tour that was not necessarily all of the tourist sites, more like something off the beaten track. Every event and site that Toru took us to see felt like a special treasure. I didn't even mention in our questionnaire that my partner and I coach track and cross country. Toru brought up several options that were going on around the city including a regional Kyudo competition. (Kyudo is ancient Japanese archery). The winning students would go on to nationals. I still get chills when I think about the poise, grace, beauty, and artistry of this sport. We had a picnic in the park between rounds. If our day had ended here it would have been perfect, but Toru had so many more adventures planned for us. We met a bonsai master and what an honor that was, everyone at the garden was so lovely. We also walked through a gorgeous park, to a shrine, and Toru showed us just what to do. We also ate our way accross the city, even trying (& loving) natto. Our vacation was over 20 days long and the best, I mean absolute best food we had over that 20 days was with Toru. It was in a tiny curry soup restaurant that you would never know about unless someone showed you the location. We had so much fun we decided to stay 1 more day in Sapporo, so Toru helped us find a room. Saying goodbye made us sad. Toru showed us the ins and outs of using the trains and subways so well that we never got lost in Tokyo. We want to take another trip to Japan to see more locations and we will absolutely be using City-Unscripted and Toru again! When my partner and I reflect on our favorite part of our vacation he and I both agree that our time with Toru in Sapporo was our favorite!

My husband, I, and our adult son arrived into Sapporo for a quick two day stay. Since we didn't have much time to get to explore the area on our own, we signed up for an afternoon tour to see and learn as possible in the short time. We took a private walking tour with Toru and enjoyed our time sightseeing in the central Sapporo area. Toru was professional and informative and gave us a great overview. We learned a lot and we felt we saw everything we needed to get a feel of the area. Thank you for a fun afternoon!
