Mexico City is an effortless marriage of classic and contemporary – a patchwork quilt of colorful colonial buildings, Art Nouveau architecture, and ancient Aztec landmarks embedded into the fabric of a modern city. The things to do in Mexico City celebrate both its rich culture and cool cosmopolitan scene with generations’ worth of art and entertainment. The best things to do in Mexico City are as diverse as the city itself: explore ancient churches and cathedrals in the historic center, be seduced by an electrifying underground nightlife scene, or grab a meal at an old-school cantina. The Mexican capital has something magical for every type of traveler.
With the surprising status as the global capital with the most museums in the world, Mexico City is a paradise for art-lovers. Taking time out to explore its beautiful museums and galleries is one of the most exciting things to do in Mexico City. The city is a trove of historic treasures, but its flourishing art scene is benefiting even more from a growing fleet of up-and-coming local talent. From marveling at street art covering brick-built canvases to exploring world-renowned landmarks like Frida Kahlo’s former home, the things to do in Mexico City truly celebrate its art scene.
You don’t need to look for things to do in Mexico City – simply strolling down its streets is made memorable by the city’s mind-blowing architecture as its backdrop. Nothing illustrates Mexico City’s history quite as beautifully as its architectural evolution, and the buildings here are some of the most interesting in the world. The cityscape is a riot of blazing colors, bold facades, and crazy patterning, with architecture ranging from the ancient to the Art Nouveau. Centuries-old buildings like the Catedral Metropolitana and Palacio de Bellas Artes hark back to the city of yesteryear.
So many things to do in Mexico City revolve around its culinary culture. Mexican cuisine – already mind-blowingly delicious at the humblest street food stalls, carts, taco trucks, and makeshift windows – has been elevated in recent years, with gourmet food halls and upmarket eateries popping up across the city. Authentic Mexican food is some of the most vibrant in the world, and when it comes to sheer flavor, there’s little to separate ambitious restaurants from traditional taquerías. Experience the diverse dining scene and delicious things to do in Mexico City to see for yourself!
I’ll be honest, I was a little bit nervous about my tour at first because despite booking it semi-last minute (about 10 days out), I thought I’d have more contact with my guide leading up to it but there wasn’t. We ended up texting the night before to confirm - which was fine - I just expected more pre-contact. However, that being said, Marisol put on a fantastic tour! This was probably one of the weirder/more unique tours as I asked to see the medical museum (which is definitely not one of the more common choices) and she added on going to see the oldest hospital in the Americas which was super cool. In the end, it was a fantastic tour and I was very glad to have her as my guide. She was extremely knowledgeable about architecture and medical things, as well as many of the artworks we saw since we visited the mural museum too. Overall, would recommend and very glad to have picked this tour! Just need to be a bit more proactive with the pre-communication.

Alex was fantastic. It felt like exploring the city with a local friend. We cannot believe how much we learned and saw in such a short amount of time. The whole process was so smooth and personalized to what we requested. Would absolutely recommend.

Great way to see the city. I did the 4 hour tour. Lots and lots of walking. I weed back to hotel. I would recommend a few Ubers to see more sights.

Alex was THE BEST guide! He went above and beyond in every way showing us everything we wanted to see but also understanding what we didn't ask for and taking us there (i.e. amazing street food finds, beautiful artwork etc!) I will not be going back to Mexico City without his guidance! As a prior teacher, he was also amazing with our inquisitive grade school boys--such a bonus!
