Explore the creative Coyoacán neighborhood

Explore Frida Kahlo's bohemian neighborhood, walk its cobbled streets lined with colorful houses and hip cafes and shop for crafts at a local market

Make sure to pack a hoodie or sweater as the city's high altitude brings drastic temperature changes and it can get quite chilly at night.

What makes this experience special

What you’ll do

Follow one of our Mexico City hosts through the creative neighborhood of Coyoacán, the former home of world-renowned artist Frida Kahlo. Now, she’d hardly have lived here if it were an average, run-of-the-mill neighborhood, would she? No.

So, explore Coyoacán (aptly named after the mischievous coyote) and discover La Casa Azul (Frida’s former home), shady squares, exotic markets, decadent street food stalls, and purple jacaranda-lined avenues. Coyoacán is a place for artists, bohemians, and cultural lovers of every description!

Do as the locals do, and hang about outdoors, people-watching, snacking, enjoying the live music, and absorbing the progressive spirit of this bohemian neighborhood. You may even catch people dancing in the streets! If you’re feeling brave, throw back tequila and join them. Okay, obviously not if it’s early in the morning, but then again, you’re on holiday.

We had a fantastic time with Alejandro as our guide in Coyoacan! Alejandro is very knowledgeable, we definitely benefited from our experience with him. Thoroughly enjoyed his telling of the history of Coyoacan and Frida Kahlo/Diego Rivera. Plus, he made such wonderful food recommendations. Gracias

Alejandro was a highlight of our week-long trip in Mexico City! Our first day, Alejandro met us at our AirBnB and walked us through the back streets of Coyoacán, introducing us to the neighborhood and the city. He is a delightful, interesting, and knowledgeable guide and person. We were so happy that we booked another tour with him later in the week. I hope that we might have the chance to meet again - but highly recommend Alejandro as a guide and friend!

I had a great time with John C. as my host and guide. His English is very good but he accommodated my wish to use Spanish at times. He is very knowledgeable about Mexico City and the Coyoacan. He had comments of things at every turn and answered every question I had. I felt very comfortable with him and our tour time went very quickly. At the end of the tour, he had many good suggestions of other things I might like in the city.

I always had heard so much about Coyoacan and its vibrant culture. That is why we felt awesome when we were set up by City Unscripted with a super guide named Roberto. The booking process was very easy and the communication was excellent at all times. Roberto is a very jovial, knowledgeable and expert guide. We travel a lot around the world and found him to be one of the best. He gave us so much information about the Frida Kahlo house (buy tickets to this or ask the tour to buy them in advance), Leon Trotsky house, the cathedral, the market and the neighborhood. He seemed so eager to show around the neighborhood and tell us little stories and tips on where and what to buy. He took great pictures of our family in this colorful neighborhood which we will treasure. Full 5 stars to Roberto and 5 stars to this experience. Do not miss it, go for it, it greatly exceeded our expectations.
