Tailoring each experience to your wishes by locals who love their city
A city of cobblestone streets, elegant boulevards, and breathtaking Baroque buildings, Budapest is an awe-inspiring cityscape that’s anything but ordinary. And as for its food scene? Well, you’re in for a surprise. The culinary culture is comforting, hearty, and homely – a stark contrast to the magnificence of its “Golden Age” architecture. On food tours of Budapest led by a hungry Hungarian guide, we’ll take you on a whirlwind experience highlighting the tastiest local cuisine. The best restaurants in Budapest are a good place to start, but the city’s food scene is much more diverse. Ready to discover the true heart and soul of Hungarian food?
Goulash is a must-try, but it certainly isn’t the only thing Budapest’s food scene has got going for it. Hungary’s capital city has perfected all its most iconic dishes, and there’s plenty to choose from on the ultimate food tours of Budapest. Perhaps you’ll sample traditional dishes like spreadable bone marrow, a rich dip made with sheep’s milk cheese, and an indulgent sweet treat consisting of a trio of sponge cakes. Can you handle a little more? Forego another Budapest restaurant in favor of a street food stall selling a local staple: fried dough, shredded cheese, and sour cream. Yum!
With so many incredible eateries lining the beautiful boulevards of Budapest, deciding where to eat as a tourist (and even as a local!) can feel impossible. Luckily, with a local guide to lead your Budapest food tours, you won’t have to stick to the restaurants catering to visitors. We’ll make sure you get a 100% authentic experience of the food culture in Budapest. Book a food tour in Budapest with City Unscripted to seek out the spots that have become local institutions: the unassuming street food stalls and hole-in-the-wall restaurants that have been feeding Hungarians for decades.
Budapest is known for being one of the ultimate European party cities, so it only makes sense that the food scene stretches well into the night. On food tours in Budapest, you could easily squeeze in a drink and dance after your late-night dinner. Whether you fancy a quick street food snack at a popular stall, a drink at a rooftop bar housed up in an Art Nouveau masterpiece, a sit-down dinner at a traditional restaurant adored by locals, or a pastry at a coffee house that only shuts at midnight, the Hungarian capital city is overflowing with fantastic food options 24 hours a day!

Angie was AMAZING! Even before we met for the excursion she was extremely helpful as our group of 6 had another tour just before our foodie tour with her and she was kind enough to coordinate things and actually meet us where our first tour ended (saving us time, keeping us from getting lost, and just making it more convenient for us). She was very knowledgeable, congenial, accommodating and made the time together fun and engaging. She was very generous with the number of foodie offerings and the amounts of each for our group. Angie was a delight - interesting information, enlightening stories, fun foodie places and great food all made the tour memorable and unique. Angie loves Budapest and her passion for the city, its people and its food showed. If we are ever in Budapest again I will be sure to look up Angie for any other tours or excursions! Thanks Angie!

Lorinc was a wonderful guide. He listened to us and what our interests were, and tailored our experience accordingly. We never felt rushed, and he spent plenty of time explaining not only food information but local history. We would happily go on another tour with him.
