What you’ll do

Heard of Budapest’s ruin bars? Of course, you have. But since the secret’s out, where can you still find authentic, local ruin pubs which embody the alternative, non-conformist spirit of the original ruin bars? You’ll find out as you explore the Jewish Quarter with one of our local Budapest hosts, weaving your way through the secret spots of this artsy, bohemian area.

Here's the game-changer - rather than a night out in the town, you will soak up the eclectic culture of this enclave by experiencing its vibrant ruin bar culture by day.

Your host will lead you through back-alleyways to drink craft lagers in microbreweries run by “Gypsy brewers”, explore a unique gallery space with squat-like basements, and browse the best vintage shops and markets, cutting edge fashion stores, independent niche boutiques, pop-ups, vinyl record shops, and the tastiest street food markets.

Bouncing your way from a subterranean pub to more cafe-style bars, your host will show you that the real ruin bar culture is still alive and kicking at all hours of the day.

    This experience gave me and my boyfriend the opportunity to see thing in Budapest we could not have found on our own. There is loads of art, music, theatre and a whole boheme scene still alive that we were totally unaware of and we found incredibly! Our local host Krisztina gave us the key to connect with this and we also got loads of good tips for our last day in the city.

    Kalid arrived early and got us started with the observation deck of our hotel which was included with the tour. He was flexible, communicated the history of the city and all sites visited with candid honesty, personal relevance and great respect for the Japanese democracy, culture and way of life. Our tour was action packed with information from beginning to end, with information delivered at a pace we were willing to consume it and relevant to the sites we visited. I highly recommend Kalid, as someone who can relate to the information curious tourist as myself are seaking, and now a resident who has educated himself on the history of Japan! Kalid, thanks for the excellent job you did today! All of the personal touches you added to today's tour, were invaluable!
