Tailoring each experience to your wishes by locals who love their city
See Stockholm for yourself, and you’ll immediately understand why locals have dubbed it “beauty on water”. Not only are there countless things to do in Stockholm, but the city’s breathtaking beauty is the stuff of storybooks. Sweden’s capital, surrounded by water, fields, and forests, is a treasure trove of history and culture spread across 14 islands. Dozens of museums harbor cultural gems from the eras of warships and Vikings, while the “Old Town”, Gamla Stan – a real-life fairytale complete with a royal palace and gabled buildings set along quaint cobblestone streets – is a perfectly-preserved medieval center with some of the most amazing things to do in Stockholm.
With 14 fantastic islands to choose from, you’ll be easily spoiled for things to do in Stockholm. There’s much more to the city than Gamla Stan, and each of Stockholm’s islands is a microcosm with its own unique attractions. The island of Södermalm is the city’s capital of cool, with vintage stores and hipster cafés attracting the alternative crowd; tiny Skeppsholmen is loved for its relaxing atmosphere and cultural attractions; and peaceful Djurgården is filled to the brim with quirky museum-hopping opportunities. Between these distinct locations, the things to do in Stockholm are endless.
Home to historic Gamla Stan, one of the best-preserved medieval centers in Europe, Stockholm is a picture of the past. The things to do in Stockholm span centuries, and history – in the form of razor-thin cobbled streets, medieval cathedrals and churches, and 17th-century buildings with colorful facades – is tangible. But the city is more than a snapshot of centuries ago. Simply stroll, sail, or hop on the subway and you’ll travel through time to contemporary neighborhoods known for dining and design, where stylish locals move between cafés, boutiques, and other cool things to do in Stockholm.
A smörgåsbord of delights await you in the local food scene – in fact, some of the best things to do in Stockholm revolve around food. Swedish cuisine might not be the most famous in the world, but one day spent exploring the city’s markets, restaurants, cafés, street food stands will have you planning your next trip. From Baltic herring with a side of lingonberries to lightly smoked, slightly sour pork sausage (or maybe a slice of liquor-soaked arraksbollar cake that’s been lavishly rolled in chocolate sprinkles, if you have a sweet tooth), the food in Stockholm is always a treat.
This walking tour was customized to our preferences. We wanted to learn about the history of the city and details about architecture. Zenid was outstanding in his knowledge and attention to details. This experience can be whatever you want it to be. Our guide, Zenid took time to explain details that we would have otherwise missed. I cannot thank Zenid enough for his thoughtfulness to ensure we had rest breaks, water, even took us to purchase a book. He suggested restaurants and other activities that were of interest to us. This was definitely worth the time and money. Especially, this was one of the best experiences of our trip. Zenid has many friends throughout the city that said "hello" and mentioned what a wonderful person he is. Thank you so much!
