      International influence

Taiwanese cuisine is what it is because of its history of global trade and colonialism. To experience the city’s culinary traditions on food tours of Taipei is simultaneously to get a lesson in the fascinating past – and the politics – of Taiwan. In fact, this is a city where food and culture go hand in hand. On food tours in Taipei, let your local guide teach you about their hometown’s history as you sample iconic dishes with stories behind them. The sugary-salty, herbal, and umami flavors that define Taiwanese cuisine wouldn’t exist without indigenous and international input.

      Dining after dark

Breakfast and lunch are always a treat, but after sunset is when the food scene really starts showing off. That’s because Taipei’s iconic night markets set up shop, attracting locals in droves. Taipei food tours would be incomplete without exploring one (or several) of these fantastic food spots scattered throughout the loud, lit-up city. On food tours of Taipei, you can navigate the chaotic lanes of food markets spilling out onto the streets. Follow the mouthwatering smells of local specialties wafting from hundreds of stalls, and see what a “midnight snack” should look like!

Ask for Ping-Hui! I was visiting Taipei for the first time and only had a limited window for sightseeing. Ping-Hui met me at my hotel and made sure that I agreed with itinerary. She also went the extra mile to accommodate my interests and requests.

I did the "Taipei Street Food and Night Market" tour with Megan on my first day in Taipei and it was such a wonderful experience. Megan was very friendly, and did a great job informing me about the food and Taiwanese culture. it felt like being with a friend and the time flew by. It was fun taking the subway and the first night market we went to had such great options we never made it to the 2nd night market that was originally planned. Oyster omelet was one of the best foods I had in Taiwan. Also had bubble tea, duck blood, numerous sausages, and other wonderful dishes. Based on the description on the City Unscripted website, I thought food was included in the tour price. Apparently this was not the case and I had to pay out of pocket for everything I ate. The prices were very reasonable and this did not detract from the experience in a major way. Just important that this be clear for future customers. I can't say enough good things about Megan and thank her for helping my Taiwan vacation start in such a wonderful and memorable fashion.
