I can’t rate Alex enough, he is a great tour guide and person. We had many great conversations covering lots of topics - not only about the tour itself but life in Japan and similar. He took us around the area of the bamboo grove, tourist and non-tourist spots with some great anecdotes and information about the area, buildings and history. We would never have gone to many of the areas without Alex’s guide, which would have been an absolute shame to miss. I will 100% be rebooking with Alex for any future trips around Kyoto.

I highly recommend Alex as a tour guide! He was really knowledgeable and thorough, and extremely fun and personable as well. He took us through his city of Kyoto and was able to show us a lot of behind the scenes places we would not have found ourselves. Thank you again for a wonderful morning, Alex!

Milo put together a perfect 6 hour day for us hitting the highlights of Kyoto. He has an impressive understanding of Japanese history, customs, and culture. He is easygoing and engages his clients with a show of interest and sensitivity. Very highly recommended for anyone visiting Kyoto.

Whether you have a full day, half a day, or just three hours, soak up the spirit of ancient Japan on one of our personalized city tours of Kyoto. Led by a local guide who’s already uncovered every inch of their city, our walking tours in Kyoto are the perfect way to discover the hidden haunts and lesser-known landmarks beyond Kyoto’s world-famous attractions. On a private tour of Kyoto, you’ll get an authentic glimpse into the Japan of centuries ago. From exploring the 1200-year-old Kiyomizu-dera Temple to walking the wood-built streets of fairytale Higashiyama (and taking a moment to marvel at the geishas floating through lantern-lit Gion), our personalized tours of Kyoto beautifully narrate Japan’s fascinating history. But you’ll also have the opportunity to see the city through a local lens. In fact, some of the most memorable things to do in Kyoto are the pastimes of the people who call the city home: grabbing a beer at a cozy izakaya or eating street food while watching the sunset over Kamo River. On a private tour with City Unscripted, you’ll experience the highlights and hidden gems – simply tell us what your dream local tour of Kyoto looks like, and we’ll make it happen.
