Milo was super knowledgeable not just about Kyoto but the history of Japan. He packed key sites in while travelling at a good pace. My 11 year old daughter and I really enjoyed it. I could relax and absorb the sites. It’s obvious Milo enjoys the city and what he is doing.
Show moreGreat tour, Mia was amazing, accommodated us and all we wanted to do in a quick two hours. was a great tour . I would record d it for anyone wanting a quick tour of Kyoto.
Show moreMariko was a wonderful tour guide. The pace of our tour was relaxed and yet a very full experience. Mariko was very knowledgeable regarding the sites we visited and even gave us an opportunity to rest with coffee and to purchase souvenirs in the Geisha district. We ended our tour in a crowded Nishiki market where she led us to the best vendors with unique foods for us to sample, including mochi, wagyu beef, octopus, chicken and a variety of Sakes. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the market. Mariko then very kindly led us directly to our subway train. We highly recommend Mariko as your Kyoto tour guide.
Show moreEiko was wonderful and very special. We are older 78 and 80, she took is very slow with us and changed one of the destination as she felt it might be a bit to much for my husband. Instead we added a wonderful Zen Temple and Garden that was so wonderful. We also happened on a wonderful clasic Japanese Flower arrangement show at another Temple what was such a treat. As we walked she and I became aware of our love of flowers and working with them. That is what led to the Zen Garden. She is a real GEM. Mary and Bill Zimmer
Show moreWe’ve been on guided tours in Tokyo, Miyako, Kyoto, and now Osaka, and we wish Caroline could have been our guide for all of them. Truly outstanding, engaging, thoughtful, and a pleasure to spend time with.
Show moreMai was charming and informative and worked hard to customize our tour to feature things that would be of interest to us.
Show moreThis isn’t a traditional tour with a fixed script. It’s a fully personalized day shaped around your interests, whether it’s culture, history, neighborhoods, or hidden local spots. Your host is a knowledgeable local, more like a friend showing you their city. It’s flexible, one-on-one, and tailored entirely to you.
After booking, you’ll receive a short questionnaire where you can share your interests, travel style, and any must-see spots. Based on that, we’ll match you with a local host who’ll reach out to plan your personalized itinerary..
Both! Your host will take you to iconic sights if you want to see them, but they’ll also introduce you to places and stories most travelers miss.
That’s completely fine! Select an experience theme or a flexible discovery experience, and after booking, answer a few questions so your host can design the perfect experience for you.
We don’t do generic tours. Every experience is crafted around you, ensuring a unique, personal, and authentic way to explore the city. You won’t just see the sights—you’ll connect with the people and stories that bring the city to life.
Yes, you will have the opportunity to chat with your host directly and agree on a plan for the day. However, there’s always room for spontaneity and local surprises!
Absolutely. Your host can adjust the itinerary on the day based on your pace, energy, or any new ideas you have. It’s a flexible experience from start to finish.
That’s up to you! Some experiences include visits inside attractions, while others focus on the city's culture and atmosphere, which can be hard to truly experience without someone who knows the city inside out.
Each host has their own personal relationship with the city. You'll experience the city through their eyes—hearing stories about places they love, discovering hidden gems, and learning what makes their city special in a way that goes beyond a typical tour.
This depends on the experience, but your host can adjust the pace to suit your comfort level.
Your experience will still go ahead, and your host will adapt the day to suit the conditions. One of the great things about City Unscripted is that no two experiences are the same, and your host knows the city well enough to find great “rainy day” alternatives.
