Kaisen Don, grilling your own meat on a convex bbq skillet and legendary Sapporo beer.
Here’s everything you need to know before your day unfolds.
Taste your way through Sapporo’s creative food scene with soup curry (a spicy soup with fall-off-the-bone chicken) and jingusikan, aka Genghis Khan, a hearty dish of mutton cooked in a skillet that resembles a traditional Mongolian soldier’s helmet! At the fish market, you could buy kegani crab from a vendor and take it to be prepared at a nearby restaurant, or try rich, creamy, buttery uni (sea urchin) if you’re feeling adventurous. At your host’s favorite izakaya bar, crunch on crispy zangi (fried chicken), slurp up Hokkaido’s miso ramen with corn and butter, and wash it all down with ice-cold Sapporo beer or local Chitosetsuru sake. And for dessert? Hokkaido is known for its ice-cream, and the sweet cream flavor is out-of-this-world.

Had a great time - I’d been to Sapporo before but this was an excellent reintroduction to a few spots off the beaten track.
Show moreAmazing guide and wonderful personality.
Show moreWe had a great time with Akihiro. He took us to several good restaurants for authentic Hokkaido food. He was accommodating when we wanted to change restaurants so we could sit together. We had a great time!!
Show moreI had the honor and thrill to go eating with the local power lifting legend himself Ryuki. The man is a true gentle giant who knows the area well as he grew up here. Another bonus was he drove us around to locations I would never find myself. Food was great. Conversation and history of area was great. And he was an interesting man to talk to as well. Def eat the cow tonight !
Show moreAkihiro was a wonderful host and was able to change restaurants when we decided we wanted to sit at a table rather than at the Ramen bar. He spent a lot of time making sure we enjoyed ourselves. We were happy to spend our first day with him in Sapporo - it made it a lot easier for us to know our way around. He also helped us understand our food options in Japan which is also very helpful since we have 2 more weeks to go....
