Hi, I’m Axel! Kyoto has a way of weaving its magic into your soul, and for me, it’s all about the atmosphere, the rich history, and the warmth of its people. Whether it’s an ancient shrine or a quirky izakaya, there’s always something fascinating to uncover here. I love nothing more than sharing a drink with fellow travelers and introducing them to the fantastical characters that make Kyoto come alive. Having lived in Arashiyama and spent countless nights exploring Sakyō-ku and Kiyamachi, I’ve become a go-to for uncovering the city’s coolest and quirkiest secrets. If there’s a tucked-away jazz bar or a tiny ramen joint with a view, you can bet I’ve found it! Whether you’re into vibrant nightlife, hidden history, or just soaking up Kyoto’s unique vibe, let’s explore together and make your experience truly unforgettable!

We had an incredible day in Kyoto, learning about the city’s rich history and culture. Our guide, Axel, was fantastic—knowledgeable, engaging, and always happy to answer our questions. He also provided us with excellent recommendations for exploring more of the city on our own. A truly memorable and enriching experience!

He has a lovely personality. The kids loved him too. Sensitive to our needs and full of interesting information. Very interesting and informative without being too high brow - a nice sensitivity.

Axel's breadth of knowledge about current and cultural Japan is astonishing. He can provide cogent understandable comments about simple facts of Japanese life to obscure fascinating facts about Japanese culture and religion. i don't think I have ever learned so much on a tour, or had such an enjoyable time. If you really would like to learn about Japan, Axel is the tour guide for you.
