When you say Scotland, we think of an isle where vast skies meet stormy seas and rolling hills. It only stands to reason that its produce would be as fresh and wholesome as its lochs, glens and mountains are.

Begin your day in a cosy Edinburgh café, where you’ll fuel up on shortbread or scones, and be briefed on all things haggis-related - who are we to tell you if the haggis bird is a mythical creature or not?

You’ll head over to one of the city’s food markets, where you’ll feast delicate slivers of salmon, prime Scotch beef burgers, preserves, cakes and cured meats. Visit an award-winning specialty cheese store, or pop into a bakery where the wee double crust Scotch pies are famous!

Round off your day at a local watering hole and taste the aforementioned haggis, served with neeps and tatties, washed down with a wee dram of single malt whisky.

You might have to roll home afterwards, but for a feast like that, it’s worth it.

  • Join a host and together you can eat and drink your way through Edinburgh

  • Sample 6 - 8 dishes of Scottish specialities and a dram of whisky, a pint of craft beer or a locally pressed fruit juice

  • Enjoy some sweet treats like scones, cakes and shortbread in a café

  • Stroll through the city and learn about it’s food culture as well as the ingredients and produce that go into each traditional recipe

  • Learn about local ingredients, recipes and food traditions from your host

  • Explore a farmers' market or a speciality cheese shop to sample cheeses, cured meats, salmon and homemade preserves

  • Visit a bakery and taste a Scotch pie - a locally loved, humble, yet delicious double crust affair

  • Bravely sample the traditional Scottish dish of haggis, neeps and tatties in an authentic local pub, along with a whisky, locally brewed craft beer or soft drink

Eat Your Way Around Old Town Edinburgh

Our guide Roxana was fantastic. She contacted us before we left the States asking what we'd like to eat, where we wanted to eat etc. We told her we would leave it completely to her discretion and that was a great choice. We decided on small bites rather than a single large meal so we tasted multiple eateries from counter top food to sit down. The day included a few stops to taste the local drinks while eating. It was a fast 3.5 hour tour. Notably, this was her first of this type tour so whoever follows us will only be better so lucky you. Highly recommend asking for Roxana as a guide.

Outstanding Day with a local guide!

We had an outstanding half day tour with Michaela. We had never been to Edinburgh before and wanted the chance to take in some local history and see some sights off of the beaten path. We met Michaela after our tour of Edinburgh Castle. We were impressed with her knowledge of the city. She let us take the lead with anything that we wanted to see and do during the afternoon. She was able to show us the best places for souvenirs and the best places for whiskey tasting. It was a very enjoyable and relaxing afternoon with an excellent guide. Thanks so much!!
