Discover Edinburgh’s incredible arts and cultural scene with a local Edinburgh host who can't wait to show you how creative the city can be. You could delve into Edinburgh’s literary legacy and see where the great literate minds gained inspiration from, or discover its arts scene by visiting iconic and off-beat galleries. You could also attend one of Edinburgh's legendary festivals, like the Fringe Festival, with your host to help you make the most of your time here.
Edinburgh is a city teeming with culture. From arts to drama, literary, dance, comedy, music, and food- there is never a dull moment. Imagine being a part of that creative energy! With one of our friendly local Edinburgh hosts by your side, you can!
Let's start with the festivals. If you happen to be visiting during August, there is the world-famous Fringe Festival, which runs from 2 to 26 August and is the biggest celebration of arts and culture. With over 50,000 performances of over 3,000 shows in 300 venues taking place, a local’s tips and tricks could sure come in handy.
And let's not forget the city's art - no trip to Edinburgh would not be complete without at least testing its arty waters. That could mean visiting contemporary art galleries, like the Ingleby Gallery, which is housed in a renovated industrial building overlooking Waverley train station, or you could hit the streets of Leith and discover its renowned street art scene.
You may want to head over to Old Town, and you could explore the Scottish Storytelling Centre, where you can immerse yourself in all things literature. There are even poems inscribed into the pavements in this city - ask your host to take you to see one of two of these hidden gems, which most people walk straight over.
Speaking of literature, Edinburgh is a treat for book lovers. Your host can show you the hidden haunts of writers past and present, like the cafe where writer J.K. Rowling sat and wrote, then take you to those quirky bookshops that only a fellow literature lover would know. Those independent little shops like Golden Hare Books, which happens to host regular literary events.
This brings us to Edinburgh's lively theatre scene. How about ditching the crowds and heading to the Bedlam Theatre? This theatre, housed in a former church, is unique as it’s run entirely by students!
