Are you in the mood for some literary magic? Then look no further than Edinburgh. Experience all my favorite spots & picture perfect views with a host
Here’s everything you need to know before your day unfolds.
Edinburgh, Scotland’s capital city, has many fun things to see and do. It can be hard to know where to start. Lucky for you, I’m here. You're going to explore some of my absolute favorite spots. Prepare for stunning views, charming streets, serene gardens, and a touch of literary magic with a local host showing you the best of the best. Let's dive right in!
You're kicking off your adventure with a hidden gem – The Vennel Viewpoint. Trust me, the climb up those narrow steps is worth every bit of the effort. Once you reach the top, you're greeted with one of the most iconic views of Edinburgh Castle. It's postcard-perfect and a fantastic spot to snap some photos. Take a moment to soak in the panorama. The castle looks almost surreal, perched atop its volcanic rock.
Next up, Victoria Street – an Instagrammer's dream come true. The colorful, curving row of buildings is straight out of a fairy tale. Each shopfront is unique, from quirky boutiques to cozy bookshops and delightful eateries. If you're a Harry Potter fan, you'll feel a bit of Diagon Alley magic here. I can never resist popping into a few shops. There's an excellent cheese monger and a shop that sells the quirkiest gifts. Your host will show you a few hidden spots here to find fun goodies.
Head over to Princes Street Gardens. This spot is a breath of fresh air in the heart of the city. It's the perfect spot to relax and take in the views of the majestic Scott Monument. This Gothic spire is dedicated to Sir Walter Scott (I'll let your host tell you more), and you can actually climb to the top for another incredible view of the city. Find a comfy spot on the grass and maybe have a little picnic. The gardens are beautifully maintained, with vibrant flowerbeds and towering trees.
Next, head to Ross Fountain. This fountain is a stunning piece of art, recently restored to its former glory. The intricate details and vibrant colors make it a standout feature in the gardens. It's a fantastic spot for photos, with the castle providing a dramatic backdrop. Take a moment to admire the craftsmanship and maybe toss a coin into the fountain for good luck. It's a peaceful spot to sit and reflect, with the sound of water creating a soothing soundtrack.
And next, head over to Waterstones, a book lover's paradise. This multi-level bookstore is filled with cozy nooks and crannies, perfect for getting lost in a good book. The selection is fantastic, from bestsellers to local Scottish literature. Let your host recommend their favorite book - maybe you'll discover a new love. Head up to the café on the top floor. It offers a spectacular view of the castle, making it an ideal spot to sip coffee and dive into your new book.
So there you have it – a perfect day in Edinburgh filled with stunning sights, delightful discoveries, and a bit of literary magic. I hope you enjoy every moment as much as I do. Happy exploring!

We easily met Gee in Waverley Station, our meeting point. After a short introduction we started an interesting walking tour that he adapted to our interests and wishes. He is a great storyteller and showed us lot of hidden gems and remarkable details in and on the Edinburgh streets. We had a nice lunch in The Last Drop. We concluded our tour, that covered all the main places of interest, with a good beer in a beautiful pub. He made our visit to Edinburgh one of the highlights on our cruise.
