I am Host
Hey there, I'm Alex, your friendly local host here in Kyoto! What I adore most about Kyoto is its diversity. It's a city where nature and tradition embrace, where you can have a blast and create unforgettable memories. Navigating Kyoto is a breeze; everything's just a hop and a skip away. From the historic gems in Kamigyo-ku to the serene beauty of Sakyo-ku and the vibrant heart of Nakagyo-ku, I've explored every nook and cranny. My passion is diving into Japanese culture trying to understand what makes Kyoto's people so enchanting. I'm your go-to person for all things izakaya, sake, and unique local shops. So, whether you're a history buff, a culture enthusiast, a foodie, or looking for the best Instagram spots, I've got you covered. Let's embark on an exciting journey through Kyoto, where tradition meets modernity, and every corner has a story.
Alexis provided us with a running and honest commentary on all of the places we visited on the East side of Kyoto. My husband and I enjoyed the tour

We both really enjoyed the tour! Our guide Alex was fantastic, he was friendly, polite, helpful and very knowledgeable. We were so lucky to see a Meiko and a Geisha (don’t take photos, just keep the memories in your head) Definitely worth the time and money!

Having a host who is both an academic and personally immersed in the culture—despite being an outsider—created the perfect balance for an exceptional tour. Their unique perspective allowed for thoughtful reflection on the nuances of local customs and traditions. Being introduced to the enigma that is Kyoto, along with a deep understanding of the why behind its rich cultural habits and behaviors, left us with unforgettable memories and profound insights. The steady stream of evidence-based knowledge, combined with personal observations, elevated the experience on so many levels. We’re especially grateful that we weren’t rushed through every temple and shrine, yet still had the door to that world thoughtfully and meaningfully opened to us. Thank you for making us a fan of Kyoto!

We really enjoyed this walking tour with Alexis. It was terrific to start early before most of the crowds and hear insights and explanations of Japanese culture and life in Kyoto. It was great to have a private tour for our family (3 adults, 3 kids 6,9,12) to go at our pace and explore the things we were interested in. We’d highly recommend this tour
