Anyone who is reading this blog has probably been bitten by the travel bug. For some of us, travel is not something we do just to relax. True travelers want more than a pristine white beach and a drink with an umbrella in it. (Though, hey, those kind of vacations can sometimes be nice too!)
No...a true traveler is someone who wants to immerse themselves into a culture and experience it through the senses of a local. They want to eat the foods the locals eat, see the sites that have nothing to do with sightseeing or tourism, and experience shopping, entertainment, and even everyday life the way a person who lives there would. In essence, a true traveler wants to become a part of the landscape they are visiting. Even if just for a few moments in time.
Like you, I was bit by the travel bug early in my life. It has been something that I don't just check off my bucket list.Travel is a part of who I am, and learning about other people and places and cultures is an integral part of learning about myself. When I first came to Tokyo it was going to be for a short period of time. Years later, I still live in the most populated city in the world, the city that is as diverse in culture as it is rich in history.Though the travel bug still bites at me and reminds me to keep exploring, Tokyo has centered me and allowed for me to find a place to call home.
As someone who now calls myself a Tokyo local, I find immense joy in sharing its wonders with others when they come to visit. Whether it's your first trip to my host city or you've been here more times than you can count, Tokyo is a treasure trove of hidden gems, famed sites, and home to some of the best restaurants and shopping experiences in the world.
From its modern skyscrapers to its serene gardens, quirky neighborhoods, and unforgettable food scene, Tokyo truly holds something for everyone. But...that can also be a part of the challenge when you visit this fabulously frenetic city.
