My daughter and I took a full day tour of Mexico City with Enesto. We had a wonderful time and recommended him and the company to everyone who is visiting Mexico City. He tailored the tour to what we wanted to do and what we wanted to see. We went to a lovely place for pastries and hot chocolate and a great place for tacos at lunch. We also tried to pulque. He was funny, informative, and a great tour guide.

I had an amazing whirlwind day with my local guide Yaravi (Vi)! We made our way through many neighbourhoods, seeing local markets, parks, churches, museums and a greenhouse with the most gorgeous flowers! All while taking time to sip margaritas, people watching and eating delicious tacos at a hidden little taqueria. See Mexico City as a local does, with a local guide.

The great thing about City Unscripted is that you get to customise your tour with someone who is knowledgeable about the things that interest you as well as knowing the city at large. Ernesto was my guide and more than excelled in making my tour interesting and memorable. From specialist museum to downtown, Ernesto showed me this giant metropolis of a city in ways that would be difficult to experience on more conventional tours. And certainly, would not be possible trying to navigate safely on your own. I got a sense of this city, its history, its culture and its politics. Accustomed to carrying a camera while walking the streets of new places, Ernesto was the local guide who knew what was safe and where not to go.

The best part of this whole day experience was my guide, Gabriel. He picked me up at the Airbnb. I had told him I wanted to do some of the Touristy things, but also wanted to get a feel for the real Mexico City. So, we traveled everywhere on the public transport system. That was fun. Definitely, traveling with the everyday people of the city. We visited the Basilica de Virgin Guadelupe, which my mom said I needed to visit. We also viewed the cathedral located in the same square and also hiked up the hill to the place where the Virgin appeared to the children. We viewed all the statues, and I bought souvenirs. Then we traveled to the Mercado Jamaica. Blocks and blocks of flower vendors. So colorful and the perfume of the flowers was everywhere. We then went to another nearby mercado where you can buy anything. There we ate Huaraches at a small restaurant. I did not know what they were previously, but they were delicious. Next, we traveled to the Palacio de Bellas Artes. Beautiful example of the early 1900's Art Nouveau / Neoclassical architecture. The gold-colored roof and white marble exterior, with all the carved statues and ornamentation is gorgeous. Then we spent at least half an hour looking at Diego Rivera's giant murals inside. We viewed The Torre Centroamericana. Then we went to the Museo, which took a while to get through. The Zocalo was next. We saw the great plaza where the Metropolitan Cathedral is covered with scaffolding used to repair the damage from the last big earthquake. The inside is magnificent. The other buildings around the square are also impressive. Then Gabriel finished our day with Tacos al pastor at a tiny restaurant in the Zocalo. Once we finished eating. that wonderful meal we headed home. It started to rain, but we managed with the umbrella. I hated to say goodbye to Gabriel. His did such a good job of making me feel like I got to see a lot of Mexico City from a local's point of view. He is enthusiastic and dedicated to showing you his Mexico City. Wonderful experience.
