Discover Kamakura: Experience all our best spots in Kamakura that we believe shows the true spirit of this quaint little town.
Here’s everything you need to know before your day unfolds.
Are you ready for a Tokyo experience that's packed with fun and flavored with local secrets? We've put together an adventure in Kamakura that'll take you from the bustling market streets to serene temples, all while enjoying some of the best local bites. This is one of those experiences that give you unique stories from locations that others would simply miss. We’ve made it pay as you go so you can sample as much or as little as you like, spend on all the local delights you wish. This isn't just any trip; it's our personal playbook of favorites, and we're excited to have a local host bring it to life for you!
Let's kick things off at Komachi-dori Street, right out of Kamakura Station. This street is a cultural treasure trove. Every time we visit, we make sure to grab a menchi-katsu—imagine biting into a crispy, juicy meat snack that’s oh-so-satisfying. And the seafood skewers? Absolutely fresh and flavorful. Don’t walk past the mochi stalls without grabbing one; the strawberry-topped ones are my personal treat—sweet, soft, and perfectly sticky. Your host can point out the best vendors. This is such a flavor trap.
A short walk leads us to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu, the heart of Kamakura’s spiritual scene. The tranquility here is palpable, and wandering through the grounds always gives us a sense of peace. Nearby, the hidden Maruyama Inari Shrine with its rows of mini torii gates is a quieter gem that’s perfect for contemplative moments and cool photos. There is a lot to check out here, your host will get you up to speed and ensure you notice all the little bits that make this place wonderful.
When hunger hits, Ichikanjin is our go-to for dipping ramen. It's unlike any ramen you've had before—the broth is rich, and the noodles perfectly chewy. It’s a local must-try. Or if you’re staying near the shrine, Miyoshi’s udon noodles are Michelin-star worthy, and the robust flavors at Rojiura Curry SAMURA are unbeatable. Speak to your host and tailor your dining plans according to your preference. Let us know what you choose, we’re already jealous.
No visit to Kamakura would be complete without meeting the iconic Big Buddha at Kotoku-in. This statue is not just big; it’s monumental, and stepping inside (though a bit warm and snug) is an experience I always find awe-inspiring. The peaceful garden around it is the perfect spot to unwind. Even moving around outside, you get a sense of the marvelous scale and the history of this place is significant. Stories and legends abound, take it in before its time to move on.
Later, we always make a point to visit Hasedera - we want you to as well. Climbing up to the temple offers breathtaking city views, and the serene atmosphere at the Ksitigarbha Pavilion is something I cherish every time. The gardens contain many interesting statues with their own stories and wonderful flora that just wiles away the time, check out the caves that arent too far away either. The lookout point is another favorite spot to just sit and soak in the beauty of it all, you can notice so much more of the city from up high and your host will be sure to point out the things not to miss.
This journey through Kamakura is filled with our favorite spots, eats, and experiences, brought to life by a host who knows the city inside out. It’s a personal invitation to see, taste, and explore Kamakura just as we love it. So, lace up your shoes, bring your appetite and camera, and let’s make some memories in Kamakura together with your host!

An interesting trip with lots to see, well explained by the tour guide who was very friendly and helpful. There are certainly more beautiful places and attractions to see in Tokyo and the surrounding area, but it's definitely worth it for a half day.
Show moreI can not recommend this tour enough. It was made spectacular by our incredible tour guide, Firas. He was informative, helpful, accommodating and felt like family by the end of the day. Be warned there is a lot of walking but the sights are amazing and original. Thanks, Tamiko Ueda Heuer.

Show moreWe wouldn’t have been able to navigate the transportation by train&bus to Kamakura and the walk to attractions ourselves with a toddler and baby in tow. Amir showed us the way seamlessly. He also brought his wife as extra help and both were great with my toddler. They were patient with our slow pace, helped us take our pictures, and brought us to a really good lunch spot.
Show moreMartina was an absolutely amazing host, giving me a huge amount of informations and insights but, at the same time, having a fantastic approach a showing great professionalism. I’m so happy that I booked this experience!
