Embark on the ultimate full-day tour, exploring top attractions and secret treasures, including encounters with geisha and samurai.
Here’s everything you need to know before your day unfolds.
Kyoto who? With its perfectly preserved samurai and geisha districts (you could see them both), Kanazawa is just as much a cultural jewel as its more famous cousin, with attractions your local host is eager to share with you. You might want to see the city’s shrines and temples, like Oyama Shrine (its gate marries elements of Japanese and Chinese architecture) and Tentokuin temple, built in the 17th century by the Maeda samurai clan. Speaking of the Maeda clan, Kanazawa Castle, the clan’s historic seat of power, is a must-visit, but so are the city’s modern attractions, like Omicho Market and its famous croquettes – it’s not called the “Kitchen of Kanazawa” for nothing! – or the trendy cafes and stores lining the crowded Katamachi shopping district, a small slice of the big city.

Show moreWe completed a full day walking tour of Kanazawa, with Harumi Hirano as our guide. She is highly proficient in English and has an excellent knowledge of the city and its history. Apart from that, she was able to provide us with valuable insights on Japanese culture and society. Her tour covered the usual Kanazawa attractions such as the Samurai and Geisha distrcts, Kenrokuen garden, Omicho market and the castle, along with several shrines. But what made her tour excellent was a stop at the Kanazawa Museum of Contemporary Art, to view several of the free exhibits. While there, we took in the Miniature Life exhibition. Overall, Harumi was attentive to what we wanted in our tour and she also suggested several excellent restaurants for lunch. We would highly recommend Harumi, if you are considering a tour of Kanazawa.
Show moreWe had the pleasure of having Rimiko san as our tour guide in Kanazawa. She is not only a professional and informative tour guide, but a kind, patient, and friendly person as well. While we did lot of walking and learning about the history of Kanazawa, she was always attentive to our desires. For a short 1-day trip, she did her best to help us get the most out of the city with perfect pace for our family of seven including two small kids. She also knows the best spots to get good photos for our memories and the pictures are a delight. I strongly recommend her to anyone wanting to see and experience Kanazawa. Thank you Rimiko san!
