What you’ll do

You’ll join one of our Rome hosts for a food crawl around historic Testaccio, an edgy neighborhood that reads like a grid of old-school trattorias and hip street food joints (hopefully whilst wearing your stretchiest trousers).

You’ll eat your way around the district where the Cucina Romana was born - since after all, the best way to discover a new culture is through its food.

You’ll feast on the hyper-local and seasonal dishes which Rome is famous for, from street eats like supplì, a fried rice-ball with a tomato sauce and a heart of gooey melting mozzarella to panino con porchetta - an aromatic combo of crusty bread, fresh herbs, and succulent juicy pork at the Testaccio Market.

You’ll discover regional and seasonal produce while you’re here too, like globe artichokes and porcini mushrooms. It goes without saying you’ll also try some pizza romana (your host will make sure you don’t mix this staple up with its cousin, pizza napolitana) and the local speciality pizza bianca.

Add into the mix a visit to a trattoria for the Roman specialty, carciofi alla giudia (Jewish style fried artichokes), followed by a dish of cacio e pepe, literally “cheese and pepper” (a minimalist Roman pasta dish consisting of locally produced Pecorino Romano and black pepper) and you’ll officially eat like a Roman!

  • Join a food-loving host (pretty much everyone in Rome is food-loving) and discover Rome's vibrant food scene
  • Explore the Testaccio neighborhood where the “Cucina Romana” originates and soak up the culinary culture and history - by eating it!
  • Visit the Testaccio Market, one of Rome's favorite markets and taste some Roman classic foods, then settle in at a local trattoria to sample antipasti and primi
  • Sample 6-8 Roman dishes such as supplí (risotto balls) pizza romana, focaccia, cheeses, salami, carciofo alla giudia (fried artichoke), and gelato
  • Get recommendations from your host regarding other places to eat and drink in the city - there are a lot, you may want to write this down!

    Our guide, Alexandra, personalized our food tour to showcase the very best of pastry/breads in Rome. We met in the center of Rome and toured the Jewish Quarter. We instantly hit it off. Alex was like meeting a good friend for lunch. We talked and laughed and ate our way through our tour which included the most delicious pastries, breads, Roman pizza, wine, cheeses, artichokes, gelato and I am sure I missed a few. We were stuffed! Alex was knowledgeable about the history of both the neighborhoods and the food itself. She was warm and personable and I would highly recommend a food tour with her. Well beyond our expectations. Alexandra is a gem!

    When we go to a new city, I always book our food tour first. It gives a chance to get to know the city and the food if you have a good guide. Claudio was excellent. Not only did we eat amazing food, but we also got to know the city of Rome. He went out of his way to introduce us to Rome's history by stopping by some amazing locations while feeding us excellent food. Highly recommended if Claudio is your guide.

    This was hands down the most amazing thing we did! Andreea was a GENIUS! She knew we were only in Rome for a day and a half so she made the entire food tour a tour of the entire city. We had the best carbonara that I’m still dreaming about, and felt like we were learning on a whole new level with all of the local hacks and insight. She went above and beyond and helped us reschedule a tour inside of the colosseum for the next day that we thought wasn’t going to work out because of over-scheduling and it made our entire Rome experience. I can’t say enough about how amazing she was and all of the details she knew about every place we went to all over Rome. 22,000 steps in a day!
