3 years ago I visited Barcelona and it is still one of my favorite places I have visited in Europe! The vibrant capital of Catalonia never fails to enchant its visitors, myself included. From stunning architecture to mouth-watering cuisine and a lively atmosphere, Barcelona offers an unforgettable experience.
If you’re short on time and want to know how to spend the perfect 24 hours there I have hand-crafted the ultimate guide to spending your day there.
Kickstart your day with a visit to the iconic Sagrada Familia! Make sure you beat the crowds by arriving early. I’d also recommend booking tickets in advance to save yourself some time. Have a mooch around both the beautiful interior and exterior where you can expect to find sunlight streams through stained glass windows and casting colorful patterns on the stone floors.
After marveling at the Sagrada Familia, head to one of Barcelona's charming cafes for a traditional Spanish breakfast. There are plenty of cafes nearby to the Sagrada Familia but I would venture slightly further away to get a cheaper and more authentic experience. Café Equilibrium is my personal favorite in the city.
With your energy replenished after a hearty breakfast, it's time to wander around the famous Las Ramblas walking street. This street has the most vibrant atmosphere where you can expect to find street performers along with loads of cute stalls to get some gifts at.
After exploring Las Ramblas it’s time to make your way to the Gothic Quarter, where history comes alive in the narrow medieval streets before tucking into some lunch and maybe some sangria too- you’re in the sun after all.
After a busy morning exploring the sites, it's time to escape the hustle and bustle of the city for a few hours and head to Barceloneta Beach. Take a dip in the sea to cool off and admire the beautiful Mediterranean waters. This is the perfect place to just sunbathe and relax but if you fancy being more adventurous you can rent a paddleboard or kayak and explore the coastline from the water.
Finish the evening with a ride up the Montjuïc Cable Car for an unforgettable journey to the top, where you can watch the sun ooze into the clouds. This is one of the most magical places I have ever watched the sunset.
It’s then time for dinner, I’d recommend heading into the lively neighborhood of El Born, known for its trendy bars and restaurants. Experience the magic of Spanish cuisine with a tapas crawl, hopping from one cozy bar to another and sampling a variety of delicious small plates.
The rest of the evening is just about wine in the warmth and that’s that, my perfect 24-hour Barcelona itinerary.
