It\'s hard to find things in Tokyo to do with a wheelchair. My mom is 84 and unable to walk at all so travelling together I can\'t even get her into most smaller shops in Tokyo as it is normal to have a step at rhe door. Having Leon able to plan ahead to the areas he knows to avoid these problems is great. we also hadnt been sure about using the subway but with him to explain how to ask for a ramp to be brought and which lifts are working and where disabled toilets are available made it workable. He even took over most of the pushing for me which in 39 degree heat was a fantastic break.
We did a 4 hour walk which took us from a temple which he explained the customs we had been unaware of and history, to the scramble, to a neighbourhood where I could get a couple of items I wanted, to the subway, to a festival a long way out on that subway which was really fun and a great outdoor crafts and food market . It was our last day in Tokyo and it filled in all the things we hadn\'t been able to do ourselves. A bit of local knowledge just puts it all together. We did the red bus for a day, then the fish markets and a few other things on our own so this filled in what else we felt we wanted to see but didn\'t want to spend a day in that heat lost or stuck in the subway teting to do on our own.
Leon was fun and knew lots of little snippets as well as the big tourist stuff which kept mom entertained while I ran n up and down stairs in places taking photos. He takes a good photo himself so since we were travelling just the 2 of us we got some good photos together. We did the tour just the 2 of us so we wouldn\'t hold up other people or have to try to go places too difficult to navigate and that worked out well . All tours in Tokyo are expensive, but this probably gave us our best value over our stay and I would recommend for people with limited mobility to do this for at least one of their days. We didn\'t have a clear plan where we wanted to go and left it to Leon, but you can plan your itinerary on line with him beforehand. We just gave him an idea of what we liked to see and he did well.
If you manage to get Leon as your guide you will have a really good day out. He\'s well suited to the job, a good bouncy and fun personality and the 4 hours flew by.
