Stroll from Amstel, a cornerstone neighborhood in the city’s LGBT history (might we suggest popping into Chez René or Amstel 54 - iconic spots) to Reguliersdwarsstraat, the heart, and soul of Amsterdam’s LGBTQ scene.

Maybe try the popular gay bar, Taboo, or stop by at The Getto. This burlesque club comes bistro has been a ‘lounge’ for the LGBTQ community for decades.

Aarre guided us around for 3 hours showing off well-known and lesser-known areas of Amsterdam. It was the perfect way to recover after an all-night flight with very little sleep. He's knowledgeable and passionate about what he does, which made all the difference.

We took the 6 hour tour. Alan Lazar, our tour guide, took us around the city to places and neighborhoods we would never have found ourselves. He is extremely knowledgeable, is able to easily communicate with and friendly to be with. He gave us history and many local facts. We are both in our 70s and Alan kept the pace perfect for us. We saw beautiful canal houses, fabulous architecture and historical buildings. Alan explained everything we saw including many anecdotes. Along the way we stopped Winkles, the best cheesecake in town, a very local restaurant for lunch, a great Cheese shop and a chocolatier. Just what we wanted.
