Shuinn was wonderful. She was flexible based on the weather, listened to our asks, and built an entire day around what was important to us. We can’t thank her enough. She was so sweet!

Had the best time exploring Sapporo with Ryo. We had exchanged emails ahead of time and he was able to customize the tour based on what we wanted to do in town. It was the perfect way to spend our first full day in Sapporo (and Hokkaido in general) as Ryo left us with plenty of tips and recommendations that we used for the rest of our time in the city. Felt like hanging out with an old friend by the end of our tour.

Ryo (Leo) was an awesome guide and really customized the tour to what I was interested in! We saw so much of Sapporo, and it was great to get a sense of the city from his perspective, having lived here for many years. Even outside of the tour, Ryo provided some wonderful recommendations for the rest of my time in Sapporo and other cities I would be visiting in Japan. I was a solo traveler, and it felt like having one of my friends show me around his city!

Aki was a wonderful host! My husband and I learned a lot from the tour, like that there is a strong Western (American) influence in Sapporo. He took us to lovely parks where we could enjoy the autumn leaves. We had mentioned that we were most interested in the local cuisine, so he took us to the fish market to try the delicious scallops, to the oldest beer hall in Sapporo to taste Classic Sapporo beer, and finally to a wonderful hole-in-the-wall for the best miso ramen in town!

Ryuki improvised through terrible weather showing us sights from Sapporo that we would have likely not visited otherwise. He also provided some interesting insights about the town and recommendations for the next day.

What you’ll do

Sapporo, Japan’s resident cool kid – the one who loves beer and goes skiing every winter – is a must-see city for way too many reasons to squeeze into just four hours, but with a local host as a GPS and guidebook, you’ll easily pack the most into your time. Perhaps you’ll get a fascinating history lesson at the Historical Village of Hokkaidō, or maybe you’ll ride to the top of the famous Okurayama Ski Jump Stadium like an athlete from Sapporo’s 1972 Winter Olympics. Wind down in neon-lit entertainment district Susukino for a drink at your host’s favorite izakaya, or make your way to Horomitoge Lavender Garden – a sprawling, lavender-blanketed lookout point with sunset views that are pure perfection.
