This was an excellent tour and Marina did a great job providing us with a local experience. We requested a “quick” detour into Omicho market and she was accommodating. The pace was just right throughout.

Highly recommend this tour for an authentic and fascinating exploration of Kanazawa. Harumi-san took us everywhere we wanted to go and to some secret hidden gems, away from the main streets. She really made our experience so personal and shared her warmth and knowledge freely. An absolute must for anybody visiting this fantastic city.

Our guide, Katie, was so kind and adjusted our tour to suit our interests. It did not take long into the tour before Katie felt like a long time friend and she made us at ease asking questions.

What you’ll do

Some of Kanazawa’s most precious districts are overshadowed by more famous areas – but seeing the city through a local’s eyes creates a new perspective. Explore a quiet residential area where pastel-colored Rakugan confections – a Kanazawa specialty – are produced, and learn more about mysterious geisha at the geisha museum and training ground. Visit Utatsuyama Park – an expansive forest in the middle of the city with over 100 types of wildflowers – then forego crowded Higashi Chaya in favor of storybook Kazuemachi, a small riverside district lined with wood-built, feudal-era buildings where ethereal geisha play music and locals move between trendy taprooms and galleries (why not let your host recommend a hidden haunt for a quick coffee?).
