Katie was a wonderful guide and made sure our private walking tour was tailored to our interests with plenty of communication leading up to our visit. She was able to provide so much information at all our stops! We really enjoyed the samurai district and museum (the garden here is exquisite!), plus the geisha/geiko districts we walked through. Both areas were beautiful with carefully curated houses and gardens - what we had always imagined a traditional Japanese village would look like! We also visited a gold leaf making demonstration in a gold leaf shop and saw a most spectacular gold leaf lined walls in the toilet entry area!! She helped us navigate our own way back to our accommodation after she left! Highly recommend Katie as your guide!

Iku picked us up at our hotel instead the station, which made it more easy to visit the places we wished to discover. Also, to take pictures of the Pokemon man hole or our request to have lunch together at a more quit place were fullfilled. Also, some personal details were shared, thank you for the insights!

Our guide adapted to our request and helped us discover hidden shops. Most importantly, she facilitated our interactions with the merchants, who primarily spoke Japanese and very little English. Thanks to her, we were able to find the souvenirs we wanted to buy, which we hadn't been able to find in two weeks in Japan. A big thank you!

What you’ll do

Some of Kanazawa’s most precious districts are overshadowed by more famous areas – but seeing the city through a local’s eyes creates a new perspective. Explore a quiet residential area where pastel-colored Rakugan confections – a Kanazawa specialty – are produced, and learn more about mysterious geisha at the geisha museum and training ground. Visit Utatsuyama Park – an expansive forest in the middle of the city with over 100 types of wildflowers – then forego crowded Higashi Chaya in favor of storybook Kazuemachi, a small riverside district lined with wood-built, feudal-era buildings where ethereal geisha play music and locals move between trendy taprooms and galleries (why not let your host recommend a hidden haunt for a quick coffee?).
