Both! Your host will take you to iconic sights if you want to see them, but they’ll also introduce you to places and stories most travelers miss.
Can I request specific places or types of stops?
Yes! After booking, you will receive a questionnaire where you can highlight must-visit spots and anything else you’d like to include, and your host will craft your experience around them.
What transport methods will be used (walking, subway, taxis)?
This is a walking experience, but your host may suggest using public transport for longer distances. Taxis can also be used if needed—you’ll just pay on the spot. Your host will guide you through it all, making the day smooth and easy to navigate.
What happens if a scheduled attraction is unexpectedly closed?
It’s unlikely, as our hosts usually check opening times in advance. But if a planned stop is unexpectedly closed, your host will adjust the itinerary on the spot and suggest a suitable alternative—your day will stay flexible and enjoyable.
How do you ensure safety during the experience?
All our hosts are vetted and trained to provide safe, respectful, and enjoyable experiences. They know the city well and will avoid any unsafe or overly crowded areas. You’re in good hands throughout the day.

Yes, you will have the opportunity to chat with your host directly and agree on a plan for the day. However, there’s always room for spontaneity and local surprises!
Can I adjust the plan on the day?
Absolutely. Your host can adjust the itinerary on the day based on your pace, energy, or any new ideas you have. It’s a flexible experience from start to finish.
What is the duration and typical start times?
This experience lasts 8 hours, with flexible start times available between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM. Whether you’re an early riser or prefer a later start, we’ll match you with a host who’ll tailor the day to your pace and interests.

Your experience includes 8 hours with a knowledgeable local host, a personalized itinerary based on your interests, and flexible start times to fit your schedule. It’s a walking experience, though your host may recommend public transport for longer distances.
Not included: food, drinks, shopping, transport fares, or entry fees.
Where is the meeting point (and can it be changed)?
The default meeting point is Harajuku Station. You can change it up to 24 hours before your experience if it’s within 5km of the city centre. What languages are available, and can I request a non-English host?
Our experiences are hosted in English or the local language (Japanese). If you'd prefer a host who speaks a different language, just get in touch with us when booking. While we can’t always guarantee availability, we’ll do our best to accommodate your request.
What is the cancellation and refund policy?
We offer a full refund for cancellations made at least 24 hours before your experience begins. Cancellations made within 24 hours of the scheduled start time are non-refundable.
What should I bring or wear?
Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather, as the day involves a good amount of walking. Bring a bottle of water, some cash for transport or optional purchases, and a phone charger if needed.
What happens if it is bad weather?
The beauty of City Unscripted is that no experience is the same and our hosts are flexible, and will adapt easily. If the weather is not looking great, your host will know the city well enough to find fun “rainy weather” activities. So that you do not miss out on seeing the city, remember to bring your umbrella!
Is this experience suitable for families, solo travelers, seniors, or groups?
Yes! This experience is designed to be flexible and can be tailored to suit families with kids, solo travelers, seniors, or small groups.
How far in advance should I book, and is last-minute booking possible?
We suggest booking a few days in advance so your host can plan tastings around your preferences. Our system requires at least 24 hours’ notice, but if you’re booking last-minute, contact us—we’ll do our best to arrange it based on host availability
Are there fitness, mobility, or accessibility requirements?
This is a walking experience, but it can be tailored to suit your pace and comfort. If you have mobility concerns or would prefer to minimize walking, let us know in advance—your host can adjust the route, include public transport or rest stops to suit your needs.
Is tipping expected or optional?
Tipping is completely optional and never expected. If you feel your host made your experience extra special, you’re welcome to offer a tip in any amount that feels right for you—either in cash or via their QR code.
Who will be my host, and how are hosts selected and matched?
Your host is a friendly local who knows Tokyo inside out. After booking, we’ll match you with someone based on your interests, pace, and preferences from the questionnaire. Once assigned, your host will reach out to introduce themselves and start planning your personalized day.
What if I want to extend or shorten the day on the go?
If you’d like to extend your time with your host, simply ask if they’re available and continue the tour. Hosts can’t accept payment directly, so once you’re done, contact our customer service team at info@cityunscripted.com
to arrange payment. And if you need to finish early, that’s no problem at all!
