You’ll join one of our local NY hosts on a jaunt from NYC to the Southern States, then the Caribbean to Africa, and back again. Just kidding, you’ll be staying in Harlem the whole time.
But your tastebuds will be flying around, and we’re sure you’ll fall in love with the food in this vibrant neighbourhood which celebrates the roots of its communities through food.
You’ll discover Harlem’s African-American heritage in classic soul food joints, as well as the newest generation of restaurants which are mixing up traditions.
It’s down to you in the end, but we’d recommend you make a stop at Sylvia’s (she’s the Queen of soul food) for a generous helping of Southern comfort, short ribs and cornbread and fried chicken with waffle.
Flit to Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic for some empanadas and mofongo, keep things classic with a slice of NY’s best pizza (a hotly contested title, but it’s at least one of the best) then peruse the stalls at Malcolm Shabazz Harlem Market, a vibrant bazaar selling crafts, textiles and delicious food from all over Africa and taste a couple of dishes as you stroll around.
