Day Trip to Lübeck

7 hours | from €160.00 pp
Just 45 minutes train from Hamburg is a small town so picturesque you’d almost believe you’d stepped into a fairytale, where crooked towers and turrets peer over manicured lawns and reflect in the river lazily flowing around Old Lübeck. This charming enclave dates back to the 1300’s when it was the capital of the Hanseatic League, an ancient trading alliance, and today the town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Wander through streets from the Middle Ages and marvel at architecture still standing from the Golden Age, be charmed by Lübeck’s beauty and discover its historic importance as the centre of maritime commerce and trade for northern Europe. With a local by your side, you’ll be able to unlock the history of this magical town that’s been untouched by time, enjoy some delicious cuisine and gastronomic treats, and go beyond what your guidebook tells you about Lübeck.

Explore the heart and soul of Lübeck’s culture and history in the Old Town, where you’ll find beautiful architecture and historic landmarks like Lübeck Cathedral, St. Peter's Church and Grosse Petersgrube and the charmingly crooked Holsten Gate.

For a gastronomic experience you won’t forget, enjoy lunch at the Schiffergesellschaft, the old Mariner’s Guild which was converted into a restaurant in 1868 after serving as the captain’s meeting hall for centuries. Try authentic cuisine and soak up the charm of this distinct building, where wooden ships hang from the celling and you can cosy up in a booth to enjoy a hearty plate of food.

After lunch, wander along the canals and historic streets like the Mengstraße, before your local will take you to a spot where you can try Lübeck’s traditional wine, known as ‘rotspon’.
