What you’ll do

You’ll immerse yourself in Mexico City’s food culture with one of our hosts, and by immersing we mean you’re going to eat a lot of incredible street food (a practical approach is best, we always find). Street food is king here, so you’ll explore a neighborhood of the city and eat at various street food stalls and taquerías for a taste of the real deal. With dozens of varieties of tortas, pozole, mole, sopes and esquites to try, and that’s before you’ve even got us started on the dizzying world of tacos with their various toppings, salsas and garnishes, you’ll be glad someone’s here to show you the ropes. Feast your way through the streets and try the dishes which keep the city going at the places you know are authentic - it’s not hard to see, or taste, why CDMX has one of the best street food scenes in the world. And we suppose there’s always room for dessert. Fresh mango with chilli, la concha sweet bread or churros, anyone?

Our Picks

  • Join a host to browse food stalls and sample 8-10 local dishes from traditional Mexico City street food vendors

  • Learn about the city’s fascinating food culture and taste ingredients you may never have heard of

  • Feast on Mexican street food beyond the standard nachos and tacos you might be used, taking your tastebuds on a wild adventure into the unknown!

  • Get tips from your host about the best Mexican eateries in the city and places they think you should try

TASTE THE BEST STREET FOOD IN MEXICO CITY

We had an outstanding time with Roberto and the street food tour! Roberto is an archeologist and a Mexico City local and he knows his stuff! We talked about history, food customs and traditions and even went to the biggest flower market. We would highly recommend Roberto for any future tours of Mexico City! (Viator, City Unscripted)

Food tour in Mexico City with private guide (Alejandro)

Loved our experience in Mexico City with CityUnscripted. We met at Centro Histórico with our guide Alejandro, who was on time (even before we arrived). We have asked for a food tour and they asked us what other interests we had, we said that we liked history and art. Alejandro knew a lot about history, architecture and art. He also knew the best places where to eat different types of tacos and other amazing dishes from Mexico. Alejandro fed us A LOT (do not eat before this tour), and also explain to us the different dishes and how the dishes related to the culture. He was really flexible on our tour and overall a great guide. We had the best time. I do recommend that if you are going to be in Centro Histórico you bring your ID so you can go into the National Palace and see the murals by Diego Rivera (I did not bring my ID, so I missed it). I would do it all over again, I do not think we could have accomplished and seen as much without Alejandro there to guide us.

Jimbo FP

I carefully scoured the internet examining several Mexico City food tours. As a James Beard Foundation recognized chef, I wanted a particularly exceptional food tour with my wife and her folks. It was important to me that we try the unique hidden gems, and small family places, that really show the true flavor and character of Mexico. Roberto Vilchis not only surpassed my culinary hopes, but is also an extremely knowledgable guide and super-nice, energetic guy!! There were a few things I was especially interested in trying, and Roberto cheerfully obliged. And, where guidebooks and personal recommendations boasted about the best carnitas in the city, Roberto introduced us to a particular spot that actually serves carnitas tacos with the bone still loosely attached to the meat. That is merely one example of the special places he knows about. We had Roberto hire a driver so we could efficiently navigate the area, transverse the barrios, and cover a variety of places. His chosen driver was a guy names Allen. My suggestion, do the same. And, if possible, request this same exceptional driver, who also speaks pretty good English, knows a great deal, and is also about as friendly as they come! I know that we hardly scratched the surface. I can’t wait to return to Mexico City and have Roberto and Allen resume our culinary adventures!! Buen provecho!!
