Our guide Shun became like a grandson for us. So kind, so caring. Expert cab catcher and walked at a pace we could manage since we are older. Great sense of humor every step of the way. Had bought tickets we needed in advance. Managed time well. Dealt well with adversity and challenges like when my husband fell off the boat and fully submerged at the rivers edge in Arashiyama.

Angelica went to lots of effort to find out what we wanted to experience. She was super organised and ensured we had a brilliant day in Kyoto.

Amazing experience!Having Ryan as a host gave us the perfect combination of knowledge of history and every day life, sightseeing and secret places. Ryan offered us a balanced and intersting tour of Kyoto and his kindness and attention surpassed by far our expectations. The meeting point is easy to find and the bullet train transport saves precious minutes when you only dispose of limited time. Thank you so much for the unforgetable journey, the information, the attitude and the efforts! Absolutely recommend!

On our third visit to Kyoto, we booked a private tour with Kirsten and it was the highlight of our trip. She created a custom, off-the-beaten-path itinerary including Keage Incline, Nanzen-ji, and Byodo-in in Uji—places we never would have found on our own. Everything was completely seamless and stress-free, from transportation to lunch, and her native English made communication effortless. She even took beautiful photos and followed up with a thoughtful summary. If you’re looking for a private guide in the Kobi/Kyoto area, request Kirsten—she’s worth every penny and made this our most memorable visit yet.

What you’ll do

Take the train to Kyoto with your local host, and discover another side of Japanese culture in its 8th-century capital. From discovering the centuries-old architecture of Kyoto Imperial Palace to catching a glimpse of a mesmerizing geisha along the cobbled streets of Gion, you’ll experience what makes Kyoto unique. You could explore the Fushimi sake district and sample fresh sake at a historic brewery, taste authentic wagashi (sweets) at Nishiki Market or experience a traditional tea ceremony. Visit the Fushimi Inari shrine and marvel at its famous, flame-colored tunnel or let your host reveal a hidden temple to you - whatever you choose to do, you’ll discover more than just the Kyoto that’s in guidebooks.
