Explore Florence’s treasure trove of history, art, and culture in its historic central districts.
Here’s everything you need to know before your day unfolds.
Italy’s Cradle of the Renaissance boasts millennia of history, art, and culture – and with a local host, you’ll soak it up in four hours. You could pass by the house where Lisa Gherardini (Mona Lisa) and her husband lived, or see the tombs of Botticelli and the Vespucci family. Maybe you’ll learn about the 1993 bombing of the Uffizi as you visit its commemorative olive tree monument. Or perhaps you’ll simply move between sun-dappled archaeological treasures like the site of the Roman amphitheater and markings outlining archaeological discoveries on Via del Proconsolo street before tucking into a typical Tuscan lunch among the ruins of the Fishing Lab – a remarkable restaurant with recovered frescoes upstairs and Roman ruins in the basement!

Wonderful introduction to Florence gems based on what we wanted to enjoy while in Florence. Set your own pace tour guide had a delightful manner, sense of humor, knowledgeable of Florence’s history, culture, art, politics, geography. He appreciated our questions and pointed out some curiosities. We were provided so many customized suggestions for best places to enjoy authentic Tuscan cuisine, wine, gelato (we have multiple food sensitivities), shopping for specific items made in Florence. For example, after touring the leather school, we know how to recognize the authentic leather items made in Florence.
Show moreGianmarco was a fantastic guide for our day in Florence. He was very knowledgeable and personable. It was delightful to have the opportunity to see Florence through his eyes.
Show moreGianmarco was great! He was very knowledgeable of the city of Florence and its history and highlights. He was polite and professional, and very patient. He showed us around and told us a lot about the huge and beautiful central cathedral in Florence, told us all the best places to eat and get gelato, showed us around the central market, and basically acted like a friend to us. Ending at the Scuolo di Cuoio (School of Leather) was the highlight of our entire trip to Italy. We really could not have asked for a better experience on our first day. I think we will be looking up a local for our first-day experience in every city from now on.

Show moreMartina was fantastic. We saw lots of the city. New and old. Just enough history not to drown in it all. Loved it.
