Embark on a day trip from Bangkok to the island of Koh Kret, explore markets and temples, savor street food, and discover hidden gems with a local.
Here’s everything you need to know before your day unfolds.
Discover the man-made island of Koh Kret, a fascinating spot located just 45 minutes north of Bangkok in the Chao Praya River.
You’ll journey here with your local Bangkok host by water taxi, then spend the day immersing yourself in its unique island life - but it’s not all palm trees and coconuts. Home to the Mon community, one of Thailand’s oldest tribes, Koh Kret is famed for the traditional pottery-making skills of its people.
Explore the island’s culture, cuisine, and history as you flit between historic temples like Wat Salakun and Wat Phat Lorn, feast on spicy fish cakes served in banana leaf bowls, and shop the traditional markets for some pottery to take home.
8 hours would never be enough time to discover hundreds of years of history, but you’ll experience a taste of this unique way of life on your day trip upstream. Please note: The local market only takes place at the weekend, so to enjoy the full experience please request weekend dates.

Kat brought us to all the places we wanted to see while being mindful of the heat and a person in our party with mobility issues. We absolutely loved Bangkok and we credit her with that. She spoke English well too.
Show moreMy friend and I had one full day in Bangkok and Kat planned the perfect itinerary. She asked us our preferences and was very communicative leading up to our tour. We got to see all the major temples, try some delicious food that was off the beaten path and gave us tips for how to navigate around Bangkok and for our trip around Thailand more broadly. Would highly recommend booking this tour for a customized and delightful experience with a local!
Show moreI really had a great experience with Kat. When I bought the tour, Kat contacted me to see how we can make my experience more memorable. She sent me quite a few ideas and I did the same. Once my trip day approaches, she sent me actual plan… and it was really great. I completely agreed with all her suggestions, ideas and timings. She met me at my hotel on time and there we went. We had great conversations, and she also made sure I enjoyed my time and visited the most places during the 8 hours. She was really keen on how this tour was going to be and also coordinated all the timings and made sure we went to all locations. Thanks so much again Kat for taking the time to tour me around. Kat is a wonderful person and very caring. If you are planning to visit Bangkok in the near future, please make sure you ask for Kat… you will not be disappointed at all.
Show moreWe spent two days with Kat - one day seeing the Bangkok highlights and the other doing the River Market and other markets. She is a great guide: very knowledgeable; professional; and kind. We would strongly recommend her for any tours in the area.
Show moreTom was very knowledgeable about Buddhism.
Show moreTom was great at helping me find pottery and the potters on Koh Kret Island. He has a wealth of knowledge to share along the way about Thai customs and people. We happily took different modes of travel through the city. He was especially able to answer my many questions about Buddhism, Buddhist customs and the differences with and overlap among Hindu and Animism beliefs so prevalent in Bangkok. Finally he was able to help me find vegetarian food when so much of the cuisine is meat-based. I enjoyed the day!
