Beyond Taipei: Exploring Taiwan’s Most Artistic City

Kaohsiung City, located in southern Taiwan, offers a different vibe compared to bustling Taipei. Here, there are no towering mountains, just a laid-back port city with rivers, harbors, and nearby beaches. But what sets Kaohsiung apart is its awesome street art scene.

If you're into art or just want some great Instagram shots, check out these four spots:

Pier Art 2

Pier Art 2

This street is like an outdoor art gallery. Located by the waterfront, you can enjoy the vibes of the waters and art together in one place. You’ll find a lot of local shops, cafes, and food here that will keep you company for the rest of the day. Easily accessible by taking the subway (KMRT) to Yanchengpu Station (Orange Line), it's a short walk to Pier 2 Art Center where you'll find all sorts of cool art, from murals to sculptures.

Cijin Island

Cijin Island

This peaceful island is a quick ferry ride away from downtown. Just take the subway (Orange Line) to Sizihwan Station and then hop on the ferry to Cijin. Once there, stroll around and enjoy the art and beaches. It’s always nice to bike around the island, enjoy coconuts, and take a glimpse at attractions like the rainbow church and the giant shell.

The Dome of Light, Formosan Boulevard

This stunning art installation is a must-see. To get there, take the subway (Red Line) to Formosa Boulevard Station. You'll be greeted by one of the world's largest glass art installations, bathing the underground station in a mesmerizing array of colors.

Lotus Pond

Lotus Pond

With over 20 temples in the area, one of the most famous is the Dragon Tiger Pagoda. The vibrant colors, designs, and architectural details of each temple are amazing. To reach this serene spot, take the subway (Orange Line) to Ecological District Station, then catch Bus R31 or R33. Once at Lotus Pond, take in the beautiful scenery and admire the art dotted around the area.

So, if you're in Kaohsiung and love art or just want some cool photos, these places are definitely worth checking out!
