What you’ll do

Oh, the places you’ll go. Today, that place so happens to be historic Uppsala city. You’ll take a jaunt on the train with one of our local Stockholm hosts then spend the day exploring! You’ll visit the oldest Gothic cathedral in Scandinavia (what a title) and uncover Uppsala’s Viking and medieval roots.

You could go one step further (alright a few steps, and also a short bus ride) to Gamla Uppsala, which is the ancient pagan part of the city, where you can still see the Viking royal burial mounds.

You’ll visit hidden gems as well as some not-so-hidden gems, like the university which was founded in 1477, and maybe pop into a museum or gallery that takes your fancy, where you can learn more about Swedish culture.

When it’s time for lunch, which it inevitably will be, let your host know if you’re in the mood for something Swedish or you want to go more international, and they’ll take you to a cafe, market, or restaurant to suit.

And of course, we’d never let you leave without experiencing fika - you’ll cozy up in a coffee shop and enjoy this Swedish past-time of making time for coffee, cakes, and conversation.

Experience outline

  • Take a 40 minute trip by train with your host from Stockholm to the city of Uppsala
  • Experience a day in the city, your way - stay in Uppsala or take a short bus into Gamla Uppsala, the old pagan part of the city
  • Visit the centuries-old university, stroll along the riverbanks and through the town and explore hidden gems and Uppsala landmarks like the ancient Viking burial mounds
  • Enjoy a traditional fika with your host who will tell you how else to enjoy Uppsala like a local
  • Pick their brains on the journey back for more things to do in Stockholm that you’ll love
