My first trip to Amsterdam was for business and lasted only a few days. For this second trip I wanted to make sure I experienced more of what Amsterdam has to offer. Especially since on this occasion I would be celebrating my birthday. I have used City Unscripted before and chose to use them again because I certainly enjoy the 1:1 nature and personalization they put into their tours. On this instance I chose a Beer Tasting tour and I was matched with Alan for a 3 hour excursion. Given the purpose of my visit it definitely felt it appropriate tailoring my tour around beer but Alan made it far more than that. He truly went above and beyond the description of the tour I purchased. While there was beer along the way as I requested, Alan masterfully crafted in all the historical anecdotes, stories of Amsterdam's past, and more importantly hidden gems a larger group tour could never afford you. Our day together took me to some of Amsterdam's most charming brown pubs and introduced me to the magic that is cheese dipped in mustard. We sipped on some of the finest beer I've tasted together with shots of Geneva. More importantly I experienced life as a native in one of Europe's most vibrant cities. Alan was truly a joy to spend the day with and his guidance is unrivaled. If you are looking for a guide reading notes off of a sheet and speaking to you like a teacher reading from a textbook, don't call Alan. If you are looking to experience Amsterdam with a friend, look no further.

My son and I spent a wonderful day with Masaya from Kyoto Unscripted, who showed us some of the highlights of Kyoto, some well-known and others less so. He was personable, knowledgeable, and accommodating, and we had a truly memorable experience. I feel that we were able to gain a much deeper insight into the culture of this fascinating city from our guide than we would have if we had joined a group tour or went it alone. It was an efficient way to see the city. We never felt rushed nor was it too slow or boring, as Masaya adjusted to our pace. One unplanned moment was when Masaya took us to the antique district in Gion, because my son expressed an interest in calligraphy. We didn't find any calligraphy that we liked, but we did find two original paintings by unknown artists over a hundred years old, which we bought for an extremely reasonable price. These would serve as much better momentoes of our trip than any kitsch from a souvenir shop. Thanks again, Masaya!

First time using this service and was very impressed with every part. In particular our amazing guide Masaya who took our group of 10 (including a 1 and 4 yr old) around Kyoto for a whole day, and even joined us for dinner afterwards. Masaya managed to fit in all the things we hoped to see, without making us feel rushed at all, even though we needed many unscheduled stops. His insights and local knowledge were brilliant! Highly recommend!
