After a quick bite of Nagoya’s hitsumabushi – a delicious local delicacy of grilled eel on a bed of rice – you’ll be more than ready to whiz through central Nagoya, from the high-rise-lined streets of downtown Sakae to the sacred grounds of 680-year-old Osu Kannon Temple in the neighboring district. Three miles south, you could stroll the lush forests surrounding 1900-year-old Atsuta Shrine, or head north to one of the city’s top attractions: stately Nagoya Castle. As dusk falls and the city lights start twinkling, maybe you’ll take a speedy elevator up to the Midland Square skyscraper, and let your host point out your dinner location from the top (unless you end up sipping sake at an izakaya in the secret underground Fushimi Shopping Street, of course).
