Exceptionally well-organized full-day walking tour of Nagasaki with guide, Armand van den Hamer. This was for a group of six cruise ship passengers, all in our 70’s. Armand and I had ample opportunity to plan the sites we visited , and he took special care to lay out a route that minimized stairs and uphill walking. That said, we probably covered close to 7 km during the day, so my advice would be to be well-aware of the fitness level of your group. In between the major sites we visited, Armand took care to point out interesting small details - the kind of things large group tours and most walking tours miss. His narrative at the major stops was fact-filled and with just the right amount of detail. Even lunch along the way was a real treat. A multicourse set meal at a local restaurant with excellent service and a nice variety of offerings. Noticing some fatigue late in the day, we made some adjustments and added a scenic stop high above the city that we were able to reach by elevator on the way back to the ship. All in all absolutely terrific day.

Walking around town with Tod made it worry free. Got to embrace the local culture and see not just tourist attractions but how the locals live.

Six of us, ranging in age from the early seventies to 79 walked all over Nagasaki today with Armand in the rain. He had cleverly mapped out the walk to minimize hills and steps. He’s knowledgeable, kind, attentive to everyone’s needs and a lot of fun to be with. Treat him well. He is a real asset.
