Home is where the heart is - or where you pay exorbitant residence tax. In my case, both belong to Kyoto city! Despite being born and raised in Slovakia I have always had a burning passion for Japan and as part of my studies, I spent a year at a university in Kyoto. I fell in love with the city at first sight and I have been living, studying, researching and working here ever since. I love to explore and wander off the beaten path, and there is no better place to get "lost" in than Kyoto. Whether a hike in the surrounding mountains, discovering an obscure shrine with a quirky history like Kitano Tenmangu (my favorite Shinto shrine) or participating in the traditional (yet slowly disappearing) arts and crafts, I enjoy everything Kyoto has to offer and would be thrilled to share all these with you.
