I am an Italian archaeologist who specialized in Roman archaeology and an expert tour guide lecturer who offers small, personalized walking tours in Rome and its environs that unravel the vast and often complex and forgotten histories of these timeless places. I am a graduate from the University of Roma “La Sapienza” with a Specialization diploma in Classical Archaeology achieved at the University of Basilicata, and an MA diploma in Archaeology achieved at the University of Reading. Yes because unfortunately today the tourism market in Rome is very commercial but there are plenty of extraordinary places in Rome and its surroundings even better than the Colosseum and the Vatican! Just to give you some examples: there is the Hidden Rome, a series of underground excavations below churches and medieval buildings such as Saint Clement Church and the Basilica of Saint John and Paul on the Coelian Hill, there is the Appian way, an extraordinary roman road that preservers lots of fascinating ruins such as burial chambers, the biggest roman Circus for chariot races and the famed catacombs of Saint Callixtus . in the vicinity of Rome there are several important sites such as the Hadrian Villa and Villa Gregoriana. the Roman Castelli where you can find the wine of Rome the Etruscan cities of Veio and Tarquinia with their extraordinary burial chambers wihit frescoes representing the every day life of its inhabitants and much, much more to see and explore!
